La banda de Metal Moderno/Progresivo Infected Rain lanzará su sexto álbum “Time” el 9 de febrero bajo el prestigioso sello discográfico Napalm Records. Excelente oportunidad para Made in Metal de hablar con su vocalista Lena Scissorhands sobre este nuevo lanzamiento.

MiM: “Time” (Napalm Records, 2024) es un disco con un sonido sorprendente, ecléctico y potente. ¿Qué puedes contarme sobre este álbum? ¿Cómo fue el proceso de grabación? ¿Qué estudio se realizó?

LS: Muchas gracias por invitarme. “Time” es muy crudo y directo a la cara, y esto es exactamente lo que lleva este álbum. Probablemente, sea nuestro primer álbum conceptual donde hay un tema permanente en la atmósfera a lo largo de todo el álbum. Aunque cada canción es única y diferente de las demás, todavía hay un hilo fuerte que mantiene todas las canciones juntas en esta atmósfera y en el momento.

MiM: La banda describe “Time” como “un tributo a cada segundo fugaz, cada latido del corazón y cada respiración que nos ha llevado a este momento”, ¿verdad? ¿Qué me puedes decir al respecto?

LS: Absolutamente, de hecho es un homenaje a Watt que nos llevó hasta donde estamos ahora. Un concepto resumido de lo que hemos hecho con los últimos cinco álbumes y quiénes somos ahora.

MiM: La canción “Never to Return” tiene elementos de géneros como el Trip-Hop e instrumentación del Lejano Oriente. ¿Es eso así? ¿Crees que incluir estos detalles en la música de la banda los enriquece más, musicalmente hablando?

LS: Es posible que también haga eso, sin embargo, nuestros objetivos eran más simples que simplemente tratar de sentirnos libres mientras componíamos y añadíamos estos sonidos étnicos que se sentían justo en el momento con lo que estábamos tratando de ofrecer.

MiM: “Vivarium” es una de las canciones que más me llama la atención y su video tiene una carga emocional impresionante. ¿Qué me puedes decir sobre este tema? ¿De qué está hablando líricamente?

LS: “Vivarium” seguramente abarca múltiples aspectos sociales y personales. El mensaje principal y más importante se esconde en las palabras: “Abraza tu dolor, tus imperfecciones. Conviértete en un hijo de tu propia creación”. Siento que estamos perdiendo nuestro precioso tiempo rodeándonos de cosas que socialmente se espera de nosotros, y nos olvidamos de ser nosotros mismos y amar quienes somos en el proceso. Creo que esa es la trampa más grande a la que se enfrenta la humanidad todos los días.

MiM: ¿Cómo es el proceso creativo de componer música? ¿Es un proceso colectivo o son solo uno o quizás dos los que componen en la banda?

LS: El principal compositor musical de la banda siempre fue nuestro guitarrista, Vidick. Compongo letras y melodías vocales para la banda. Todos juntos pulimos y adornamos las canciones antes de empezar a grabar.

MiM: Con este álbum Infected Rain presenta a su nueva integrante Alice Lane. ¿Cómo ha sido el equipo y la bienvenida a este nuevo integrante?

LS: Sí, de hecho, Alice Lane es nuestra nueva incorporación a la familia. Tuvimos un cambio en la formación de la banda el año pasado y le presentamos a nuestro nuevo miembro de la banda el lanzamiento de la nueva canción “Dying Light” en mayo de 2023. El apoyo y la reacción de los fans fue impredecible, sin duda fue un momento muy emotivo para la banda. Alice es un músico fantástico y una gran persona, encaja perfectamente y aporta equilibrio a la banda.

MiM: Excelente diseño de portada del álbum. ¿Quién estuvo a cargo del diseño? ¿Cuál es el concepto detrás del diseño de la portada?

LS: El artista de la portada del álbum es nuestro guitarrista Vidick, ¡tiene muchos talentos! Ha realizado muchas artes visuales en el pasado y confiamos y amamos sus ideas y aportes. La obra de arte del álbum Time representa una especie de puerta, un pasaje a otro lugar, y ¿adónde conduce este pasaje o puerta? Dejaremos para la interpretación personal de cada uno.

MiM: ¿Qué planes tienes para promocionar este álbum? Conciertos o giras programadas en este nuevo año.

LS: Creemos que es la mejor forma de promocionar. Tu música va a hacer muchas giras y compartirla con gente de todo el mundo. Este es definitivamente nuestro plan para 2024.

MiM: Finalmente, quería que te sintieras libre de compartir algunas palabras con tus fans y nuestros lectores.

“Embrace your pain, your imperfections. Become a child of your own creation”.

The Modern/Progressive Metal band Infected Rain will release their sixth album “Time” on February 9 under the prestigious record label Napalm Records. Excellent opportunity for Made in Metal to talk with their vocalist Lena Scissorhands about this new release.

MiM: “Time” (Napalm Records, 2024) is a album with a surprising, eclectic and powerful sound. What can you tell me about this album? How was the recording process? What study was it carried out?

LS: Thank you so much for having me. “Time” is very raw and in your face for sure and, this is exactly what this album is carrying. It’s probably our first conceptual album where there’s a permanent theme at atmosphere throughout the entire album. Even though each song is unique and different from the others, there’s still, a strong thread that keeps all the songs together in this atmosphere, and in the moment of time.

MiM: "Time" is described by the band as "a tribute to every fleeting second, every heartbeat and every breath that has led us to this moment" is that right? What can you tell me about it?

LS: Absolutely, it is indeed a tribute to watt led  us to where we are now. A summarized concept of what we’ve done with the past five albums, and who we are now.

MiM: The song "Never to Return" has elements of genres such as Trip-Hop and instrumentation from the Far East. Is that so? Do you think that including these details in the band's music enriches them more, musically speaking?

LS: it is possible that it does that too however, our goals with it where more simple than that we were just trying to feel free while composing and adding these ethnical sounds felt right in the moment with what we were trying to deliver.

MiM: "Vivarium" is one of the songs that catches my attention the most and its video has an impressive emotional charge. What can you tell me about this topic? What is he lyrically talking about?

LS: “Vivarium” embraces multiple social and personal aspects for sure. The main and most important message being hidden in the words: “Embrace your pain, your imperfections. Become a child of your own creation”. I feel like we are wasting our precious time surrounding ourselves with things that are socially expected from us, and we forget to be ourselves and to love who we are in the process. I think that is the biggest trap that humanity is facing every day.

MiM: What is the creative process of composing music like, is it a collective process, or is it just one or maybe two who compose in the band?

LS: The main music composer in the band always was our guitar player, Vidick. I compose lyrics and vocal melody for the band. All together, we polish and garnish the songs before starting recording.

MiM: With this album Infected Rain presents its new member Alice Lane. How has the team been and the welcome to this new member?

LS: Yes, indeed, Alice Lane is our new addition to the family. We had a band lineup change last year and we presented our new band member with the release of the new song Dying Light back in May 2023. The support and reaction of fans was unpredictable, it was very emotional time for the band for sure. Alice is a fantastic musician, and a great person, she fits right in and brings a balance to the band.

MiM: Excellent album cover design. Who was in charge of the design? What is the concept behind the cover design? 

LS: The artist of the album artwork is our guitar player Vidick, he has many talents! He has done a lot of visual arts for the band in the past, and we trust and love his ideas and input. The artwork for the album time represents some sort of gate, a passage somewhere else, and where this passage or gate leads to? We will leave for everyone’s personal interpretation.

MiM: What plans do you have to promote this album? Concerts or tours scheduled in this new year.

LS: We feel like the best way to promote. Your music is to tour a lot and share it with people around the world. This is definitely our plan for 2024.
